Eid in Dubai?

AssalamuAlykum Wa rahmatullah!

Four! I had four slices of pizza! omg!

They were medium sized and absolutely, drippingly, mouth-wateringly, aromatically delicious. (Naturally, I hadn't made the pizza! lol) So anyway, the guilt is kicking in, big time. I even had a drink to go with it (something I usually avoid). Oh heck! Its Ramadan. I can always... erm... fast it off. Insha Allah.

And for anyone who is reading this post (which incidentally is about food, again! God, I'm turning into such a foodie! Amazing, the effect fasting is having on me! And I was hoping I'd actually start praying more!) so back to what I was saying:

Anyone who has spent an Eed in Dubai, pls share your experience. Whats it like at chaand raat, whats it like on Eid day, etc etc. I have spent one Eid here, but it was totally boring. You guessed right, this is for a potential story that I may write for a Paki publication. Hope you guys will write in and share your experiences.

Gotta go, Allah Ma'ak!

Well..Don't get me started!

We only have one uncle in Shj, but he has old sons, so it's like mum and dad would sometimes go over to their place for a while...bas that's it. In the evening some family friend might come over...or we may go out..

the problem is that dad's friends' wives might not necessarily be mum's friends...and vice versa...

so basically, we don't have alot of "family friends"...

I'm sad to say it, but eid for me is boring where ever i may be..in karachi i'm in our room only coz there's mixed in the house since everyone comes over to see dadi..
in uae, atleast i have the house to myself...

this year i'm looking forward to wearing my eid clothes, and sitting in the bedroom...not doing much...

actually i have to remind myself that eid is a Festival for muslims and a day for celebration..hence it's happiness whether it's celebrated in your bedroom, or whatever..

Salaams. Oh I'm sorry to hear about the bedroom part, must be boring indeed... but I do admire your spirit about wanting to be happy and stuff.

About Eid in UAE, thanks for sharing your experience. Since I haven't lived here too long, I cannot say much on that like you guys... but yeah man- its sounds kinda boring!

My Eid in Khi was always so fun!Dressing up and getting Eidi and since we were five sisters, together we had a riot! Sigh... good ol'!

gxSalam Alaikom.
Well first day consists of visiting family and more family for ...err my family atleast!
So yes, usually the whole family would get together at the grandparents house, we spend half of the day in your paternal grandparents house with aunts and uncles and all, and then the other half of the day is spent with maternal side of the family.
Lots of food! We have lunch twice! once at this house and again at the other. Now you dont wana upset auntie and not taste her food!
No breakfast. Go to bed really late and get up really early. Girls get dressed up and you know the long story of "gettin ready". Men go to the Eid prayers. Complain about girls taking so long. They expect the girls to be ready when they're back which never ever happens.
Thing is, girls spend all night trying diffrent hairstyles, and diffrent styles of makeup and what not to get the "perfect look", and by the time they do, it's nearly fajer.. so when they wake up in the morning, you can imagine the amount of stress they go through to get the look they practiced for all night long, and with so little sleep, they kind of turn into ... you know, Eid-zillas :/

Eid to me is colorful, and also very very very stressful. I mean a whole day is spent with women who would not stop talking!(torture!) You see people who you havent seen in ages, and its crowded most of the time. at some point Grandma locks the girls up in a room because she doesnt want strange women to see them. I don't get why, some weird old people ideology maybe?
Later on uncles and grandfather come in from the Majlis so that we girs can see them. Get Edea which gets embarrassing when your uncles dont have to bend down to give it to you.. But they still do! Grandfather gives the most. Even when he was sick, uncles said that they'd give the edea to all the children instead of him, but he insisted on giving it to all of his grandchildren hand to hand. That was sweet..
At the end with all the food and the socializing you come back exhausted. You look horrible, and you just want to sleep!
But its good. Time spent with family is always good. some ppl get on ur nerves, but you can never get seriously angry with family members, with time their annoying habbits start to become the very habbits you adore in them.
And plus Eid gives a chance to forgive and be forgived. Grandmothers usually tend to get emotional at the beggining, because they're so happy to see everyone there.
----
Second day, cousins go out somewhere. Some would choose to skip, but they usually plan something.

Phew wrote too much! hope it could be of some use

Wsalam!

Thanks Zaytuna, that was definitely very insightful and helpful - (and I love the Eid-zilla part, lol). Your Eid sounds stressful but fun, all the same.

I was wondering about traditional Eid sweets, like Indians and Pakis must have a vermicelli sweet-dish on Eid day, and also sweetened milk with lots of nuts n dates stuff. I'm assuming our Arab friends take Omani Halwa and stuff?

Bosnian Hijab Girl:

I did visit your blog and way to go! I'm glad Hijab in Bosnia is now becoming popular again.
