Back to square one!

AssalamuAlykum wa rahmatullah!

I haven't cribbed, complained or vented in days!! Alhamdulillah I'm fine, but just a tad frustrated. to hell with the editors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Suffice ot to say that in my imagination, i see offices of certain publications being ripped apart by a ferocious earthquake, and a divine voice saying "this is punishment, for abandoning perfectly good articles from khaki"...... and the editor begs forgiveness... and I'm tempted to say rather coolly- "Who would have known you'd learn a lesson?"

Sigh. That was my imagination running wild. Its about time my writing pursuits ran into some seriously good luck, or for that matter, some seriously biased (towards me) Eds. Seriously, I don't know anyone as easily disheartened as myself. I mean I only started writing professionally this year! What do I expect? Eds running after me when I don't even have the required qualifications? crap, I tell you!

Well, whether or not I MAKE it one day into the dog-eat-dog world of writing, I know one thing. Its all about destiny and the will of the Almighty!

Ma'assalaamah

Do you live off your writing? Cuz I'm thinking of doing that, and I don't have the "qualifications" either!

No wayyy... I couldn't possibly! Firstly, I'm a depends-on-my-mood freelancer who works solely on inspiration- at times magazines/papers will commission me a story and I will just not get it done on time...(idea bores me or something) ask for extra time.. then do it absolutely unwillingly, then complain about why it got rejected! lol!

Plus, in most places you need to have contacts, one can always cultivate a relationship with Eds (a love-hate relationship, I might add!)... you keep building contacts along the way, if you aren't born to.. say.. the NYTimes editor.

Lastly, my qualifications amount to nothing but an A Level! Obviously any kind of university degree helps, even if it isn't specifically a journo degree.

And yeah, hope you do realllly well as a writer professionally!

InshaAllah Khair.

Don't worry, I've learnt that when it;s in your fate, nothing i nthe world will stop it. Keep trying and make dua'a. You'll inshaAllah soon find a good editor.

Have you tried magazines such as Young Times? Or maybe you could publish some of your writings online, the link of which you could send editors too?

Insha'Allah Khair...

Jazak Allah sis, that is encouraging. You are right, if it is in my qismat, things will turn out fine...

Alhamdulillah I have met with some success also, but it just isn't enough. Young times, yes good idea- and writing on the net also is a good option. I do a bit of that too at times.

Plus, I tend to blog only when things look low. I hardly ever write about it when some good papers do publish my work. In fact, I get so taken aback that I am left to wonder "man, they must be really hard up, they're using my article!" lol... self-confidence is definitely not my forte... hehe

LOL at the last line! No insha'Allah that's not the case!

Don't publish your proper writings here. Get another blog and use a Creative Commons license.

Otherwise get a .com

You know, like freelance photographers!

All freelance people should have their own offical site as a portfolio.

Just my humble bumble suggestions!

There was once a time I wanted to become a freelance photographer. I even contacted an Islamic publishing house. But...

alas...

they never got back.....

*sniff

Jazak Allah again.. pretty good ideas there about freelancing.

If youre still into photography, do post some pics on your blog. And you decided not to freelance after contacting just one company? (at this rate, i would have hung up my digital pen ages ago)... seriously you could send your work to many places and hopefully someone will "get back to you later."

note: I've read/heard this phrase enough times to know its pretty much meaningless... but ofcourse there is always a chance.

But insha'Allah maybe after a couple of weeks...

Sure hope to see them soon. Can't help thinking you're just being modest...
